BARRISTER (MRS) MARY EKPERE – ETA

PROFILE 

 

Barr (Mrs.) Mary Ekpere Eta is from Cross River and was born in Ikom LGA of the state.

She schooled at Commercial Secondary Community School, Okanghan, Ikom, where she obtained her Senior School Leaving Certificate (SSCE) in 1992. She then proceeded to the Kaduna Polytechnic where she studied Business Development and graduated with a diploma in 1999. 

She also holds a Bachelor of Law, LLB (Hons) degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna state. 

Between 2006 and 2009, Barr Ekpere- Eta served with the prestigious law firm of Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) where she earned plaudits for her meritorious work as a counsellor. While at Afe Babalola’s, Barr Ekpere- Eta was instrumental to the settlement of a number of knotty legal disputes for the firm’s clientele and her commitment to the success of her clients cases was commended by many reputable court judges.

In 2009, she became a member of the Nigerian bar.   

Mrs. Ekpere-Eta has a Post Graduate Diploma in Corporate Management Law obtained from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. In 2013, she became a fellow of the Chattered Institute of Taxation.

An astute politician and a believer in effective, hands-on leadership, Barr Ekpere – Eta contested for the Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat on the platform of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) during the 2011 general elections. 

In 2012, she aspired to serve the people of Cross River state as governor and contested for the office on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change, though she lost the election to the then incumbent governor.

Upon the formation of the All Progressives Congress in 2013, she became a member of the Interim Management Committee, while in 2014 she served as the Chairperson of the Appeal Committee of the APC (state congress) in Bayelsa State. She also served in Ekiti state as the chairperson of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee of the party.

Barr Mary Ekpere-Eta currently holds office as a member of the APC Board of Trustees representing APC  women of the South South geo-political zone in the Board.

An active campaigner for the advancement of women in Nigeria, she has participated in many global workshops and conferences targeted at devising and implementing plans for the development of women and girls nationally and internationally.

In April 2017, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Barr (Mrs) Ekpere – Eta to the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) where she serves as the Centre’s Director General. Since then, she has been deeply involved in the initiation of projects that are oriented towards creating significant positive impact in the lives of rural and urban Nigerian women.
