INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

 

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department is one of the six Departments of the National Centre for Women Development Abuja. The department deals with major Concepts, Developments, Specifications, Standards and Managerial implications involved in Computer Hardware, Software, Systems Networks, Telecommunications and Technologies used in Computer-based Information Systems.

 

ABOUT INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Department is one of the six Departments of the National Centre for Women Development Abuja. The department deals with major Concepts, Developments, Specifications, Standards and Managerial implications involved in Computer Hardware, Software, Systems Networks, Telecommunications and Technologies used in Computer-based Information Systems.

The department has two (2) units namely:-

1.     ICT Training Unit

2.     Technical Unit

 

FUNCTIONS

The specific responsibilities of the Department include the following:

 

1

Establishment and Administration of functional and reliable computer networks and internet connectivity for the Centre.

2

Maintenance of adequate ICT resources for the Centre.

3

Coordination and supervision of ICT programmes and projects of the Centre.

4

Representing the NCWD in local and international ICT-related conferences, summit, seminars and workshops such as CTO, e-Nigeria, WSIS, etc.

5

Providing standards and specifications as well as leadership in acquisition and implementation of ICT systems for the computerization of the Centre's operations.

6

Liaise with international and regional ICT organizations such as International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco, etc in order to foster and promote national ICT development as well as keeping abreast with new developments.

Ensuring that the Centre's activities are ultimately IT driven.

Organizing, coordinating and carrying out ICT capacity building programmes for efficient, effective and timely service delivery.

Administering, maintaining, upgrading and expanding the existing IT network facilities to meeting the increasing needs of the Centre.

Making recommendations for outsourcing of ICT specialized requirements of the Centre.

Oversee the implementation of all ICT engineering infrastructure and development of software applications to enhance e-government activities of the Centre.

Provision of effective administration of the Centre's website through content development and periodic updating.

Coordinating the activities of the Situation Room

 

14

Facilitation of Public Services ICT integration and harmonization.

ICT department has a broad range of cutting-edge professional skills training and academic courses, seminars, and workshops focusing primarily on the technology, business, management and engineering practices within the ICT knowledge domain.

Microsoft Certified Information Technology Professional (MCITP) Windows 2008 Server

 

 

Entry Qualifications

 

1. Nine years of basic education (3 years of Junior Secondary and school leaving certificate) is the minimum requirement for entry

 

Or

 

Special consideration may be given to sponsored candidates with lower academic qualification

 

Or

 

Candidates (matured) who are computer literate have good aptitude capable of benefiting from the programme.

 

National Certification

 

Trainees who successfully completed all the courses/modules specified in the curriculum table and passed the national examinations in the trade will be awarded the following certification:

 

ü A National Vocational Certificate (NVC).

 

This programme is expected to be in form of term/session-based training courses of not less than 3 months/term and 9 months/session, in three Session Modules, NVC Part I, NVC Part II and NVC Final.

 

Accreditation

 

1. This programme has been fully accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

 

Curriculum Structure

 

The curriculum of all NVC programmes consists of main components. These are:

 

1. General studies/education

 

2. Trade courses

 

3. Supervised Industrial Attachment

 

NVC Programme DURATION

 

a. 3 parts, each for one year

 

b. 6 hours per day or 30 hours per week

 

c. 14 weeks per term (2 weeks for evaluation and registration)
