About National Centre for Women Development, Abuja

The National Centre for Women Development (NCWD) is an agency of Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. It is a non-political not-for-profit organization established by Decree No. 11 Section 1(5) of 1995, and run by a Governing Council made up of eminent and distinguished Nigerians.
        

Services

National Centre for Women Development, Abuja is charged with the mandate for Gender Training and Capacity Building, Research, and Documentation in addition to addressing the concerns of Nigerian Women. As such, it is expected to network internationally and complement other players within the sustainable development

TRAINING AND EMPOWERMENT OF FEMALE ARTISANS
The 2012 National Baseline youth Survey Report released in December 2013 by the National Bureau of statistics (NBS) in collaboration with the federal ministry of youths development showed that the population of youths aged between 15 and 35 years in Nigeria is estimated to be 64 million, while females are more than males in all age groups.

The Report also revealed that 54 percent of Nigeria youths were unemployed in 2012. Of this, the report stated that the female percentage stood at 51.9 percent compared to their male counterpart with 48.1 percent being unemployed.

Going further, the report revealed that “out of the group of married youths, 68 percent were females, while 32 percent were males, the rate of divorce and widowhood was high among the female youth with 70.9 and 71.8 per cent respectively, while 38.5 per cent females were never married.”

Departments

In pursuance of its objectives, the Centre:

1. Promotes research into the activities and achievements of women;
2. Serves as a Databank on Women And Development (WAD) in Nigeria;
3. Facilitates the formulation of policies affecting women in all sectors and primarily in areas such as employment, health, agriculture and finance;
4. Provides training in skills development, and acquisition, income generation activities and serve as a training ground for managers and leaders;
5. Provides a forum for guidance, counseling and mobilization of women in both urban and rural areas; and;
6. Liaises with National, Regional and International agencies involved in women development programmes.
